Mirror (2015-)

左側にプラスチック、金属、オモチャ、包装紙など様々な素材をコラージュする。対して右側には反転したイメージを油絵具により再現する。左側は現実にそこに存在し貼り付けられている「実像」で、右側は忠実に再現しようとした油彩による「虚像」である。おそらく時間の経過とともに左側のコラージュした素材たちは色褪せることもあるだろう、黄変し劣化し元あった形ではなくなってしまう。一方で「虚像」であった油絵はかつてあった「実像」よりも色鮮やかに残り続ける。ここでもまた価値の反転(Mirroring)が起こる。

The left side of this artwork is a collage of various materials, such as plastic and metal, toys, and wrapping paper. By contrast, the right side is a mirror image of the collage, reproduced by using oil colors. The left side is the “real image” that actually exists and is stuck there, while the right side is a “virtual image” achieved by oil painting in an attempt to faithfully reproduce the real image. The materials used in the collage on the left may fade over time; they will turn yellow, deteriorate, and deform. However, the oil painting, which was a “virtual image,” stays more colorful than the “real image” that once existed. Here, the mirroring of value occurs once again.
